AGRI MO-EL

INTEGRATED BIOLOGICAL CONTROL AGAINST INSECTS

AGRI MO-EL light traps offer an effective and sustainable solution for controlling a wide range of flying insects, including species that are particularly harmful to vegetable and fruit crops.

These traps have undergone rigorous testing by the Interdepartmental Center for the Improvement and Valorization of Agro-Food Biological Resources (BIOGEST – SITEIA) at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, demonstrating high effectiveness in the mass capture of harmful insects.

In just two months, over 82,000 individual insects were collected, including high-impact species such as Tuta absoluta, Helicoverpa armigera, Xestia c-nigrum, Autographa gamma, agromyzids, Halyomorpha halys, and Nezara viridula.

Thanks to UV LED technology at 365 nm integrated with a suction system (TurbiLed and MoonLed), AGRI MO-EL traps ensure selective and continuous attraction.

The use of specific pheromones, such as aggregation pheromones for the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (Halyomorpha halys), further enhances effectiveness, enabling targeted pest control.

Compared to conventional methods like pyramid traps or sticky panel traps, AGRI MO-EL devices show superior performance, with a capture ratio of 5:1.

The light attraction of the lamps has also proven effective on key fruit crop pests such as the Pear Psylla (Cacopsylla pyri) and Codling Moth (Cydia pomonella), thus expanding the scope of the technology to include the protection of tree crops.

These devices are especially valuable in defending Solanaceae crops — including tomato, potato, eggplant, and pepper — against highly damaging, polyphagous pests like Tuta absoluta and Helicoverpa armigera, which can compromise entire production cycles.

NOT JUST FLIES, WASPS, SANDFLIES, AND MOSQUITOES, BUT ALSO…

Xestia c-nigrum, the yellow underwing moth feared in horticulture, is also effectively controlled thanks to the combined action of UV light and suction.

Scientific collaboration with the Department of Agricultural, Food and Environmental Sciences at the University of Perugia (UNIPG) has allowed for the refinement of every technical aspect of the traps, ensuring optimal performance in both protected environments and open fields.

AGRI MO-EL solutions are state-of-the-art tools, essential for integrated and sustainable agriculture that merges technological innovation, environmental protection, and increased productivity.

Ozone represents an innovative and sustainable solution in agriculture for crop protection. Thanks to its oxidizing properties, it can eliminate bacteria, fungi, and viruses without leaving chemical residues, thus helping to reduce the risk of pathogen resistance. After application, it rapidly degrades into oxygen, making it environmentally safe and free from polluting effects on soil and water.

Additionally, ozone can stimulate the plants’ natural defenses, improving their tolerance to environmental stress and enhancing overall crop quality. Its use also reduces the need for agrochemicals and related costs, while ensuring greater safety for operators.

MO-EL is registered with  EUOTA

According to the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR), anyone wishing to market an ozone generator for biocidal applications within the EU must obtain product authorization in compliance with the BPR, which includes registration with EUOTA (the trade association for manufacturers of ozone generators supplying the European market).

The solar-powered versions of MO-EL traps provide a sustainable and self-sufficient solution for the control of flying insects in agricultural environments. Powered by solar panels, these devices ensure continuous operation even in areas without access to the electrical grid, while maintaining high capture efficiency and minimizing energy consumption. Ideal for greenhouses, orchards, horticulture, and open-field crops, they combine effectiveness, practicality, and energy savings.

Ozone is a gas naturally present in the stratosphere and serves as our natural protection against harmful UV rays. At high concentrations, it has a bluish color and a pungent odor, with an atmospheric concentration of about 0.04 ppm (parts per million – 1 ppm = 2 mg/m³). In nature, ozone can be generated by the strong electrical discharge of a lightning strike, and its odor can be detected after a thunderstorm. The electrical discharge acts on oxygen molecules (O₂), transforming them into a new molecule, ozone (O₃). Due to its high reactivity, ozone tends to dissociate into O₂ + O, with the latter being responsible for its strong oxidizing power. Therefore, ozone gradually disappears and reduces to oxygen over time, leaving no trace. Ozone can also be artificially generated through a process called “Corona Effect” from the oxygen naturally present in the air, using a machine called an ozone generator, which produces electrical discharges within it. Its high oxidizing power was discovered by Christian Friedrich Schönbein in 1840; it is so effective that it can perform disinfection in shorter contact times and at lower concentrations compared to other disinfectants like chlorine, chlorine dioxide, and monochloramine. Today, ozone helps address...
